Many youngstaz into theory want to know what Lacan has to say. This is partly because the aesthetic of being deep and smart is very appealing for those who can’t handle the aesthetic of being a strong Chadly man or a wellness guru, makeup expert woman, and Zizek is immediately ticking lots of boxes for people who need some separation from the surrounding ideology of their friends and family. This is not to say being a normie is bad, but some of us can’t handle the ritual of it, it just doesn’t work for us. I say this, but really it (it, being a normie with basic and predictable ideas) is just very insulated, possibly stupid, but I don’t really think it is right to be strictly against being a normie. Normies make the world go ‘round. I admire non-intellectuals, but I could never be a non-intellectual, and I enjoy the world of non-intellectuals intellectually. Being an intellectual isn’t being smart, it is something else, it is a relation to knowledge and daily life.
